Sediment Characteristics and Intertidal Beach Slopes along the Jiangsu Coast, China

چکیده
Tidal flats play an important role in promoting coastal biodiversity, defense against flooding, land reclamation and recreation. Many tidal flats, especially the tide-dominant ones, are muddy. However, number of studies on profile shape surficial sediment distribution muddy is small compared to sandy beaches. Based high spatial-resolution measurements along Jiangsu Coast, China, we analyzed morphology characteristics unvegetated intertidal Coast. The Coast can be divided into eroding northern part (north coast) accreting southern (south coast). beach slope north coast shows a southward flattening trend, apart from some outliers related rocky parts coastline. We found alternating very fine coarse (depending local clay content) for different locations coast, which explained consolidation armoring-induced erosion resistance. Tidal Flat Evolution at the Central Jiangsu Coast, China
A schematized process-based model of tidal flat evolution was constructed with dimensions similar to the tidal flats near the Wanggang Mouth at the central coast of Jiangsu, China. The simulated flow patterns agree qualitatively with field observations from literature, i.e. involving tidal asymmetry, current directions and tidal wave features. The analysis of the sediment fluxes depicts that de...
متن کاملOccurrence and Seasonal Variations of Lipophilic Marine Toxins in Commercial Clam Species along the Coast of Jiangsu, China
Recent studies have examined lipophilic marine toxins (LMTs) in shellfish and toxic algae worldwide, but the occurrence and seasonal variations of LMTs in commercial clams (including Mactra veneriformis, Ruditapes philippinarum, Meretrix meretrix, and Cyclina sinensis) at their major culturing area in Jiangsu, China, remain largely unexplored. In this study, a new solid phase extraction (SPE) i...

The Karnafully is one of the most important rivers due to its profound influence on water chemistry and sediment characteristics. The present study intended to assess the quality of water and sediment from intertidal zone of this river in respect to the pollution index. Seasonal water and sediment samples were collected during four seasons (Monsoon, post-monsoon, winter, and pre-monsoon) of 201...

متن کاملAssessment of the Longshore Sediment Transport at Buarcos Beach (west Coast of Portugal) through Different Formulations
This study applies some of the most practical longshore sand transport formulations and evaluates their adequacy to estimate the total (suspended and bed load) longshore sediment transport rate (LSTR) at Buarcos Beach, in the West coast of Portugal. The straightforward methodology here present is simple to apply and therefore useful to quickly obtain a first estimate of the littoral transport i...
